“A Healthier Ummah (Community)”

The Ummah refers to the collective Islamic community which may not only refer to those that are present in Singapore but also to regional Islamic communities and beyond. The word Ummah was chosen as it represents the community that this organization wants to help and assist.

According to the WHO, Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. The whole premise of the existence of healthcare professionals is to cure and alleviate sufferings of any person. By making a statement of “Healthier”, the vision statement seeks to illustrate that the process of becoming more healthy is a continual process whereby there is no such state as perfect health but a strive towards it. By saying “Healthier”, it seeks to define what is the current state of health for the target population as well as what measures can be done to achieve it.

There are many hadith and narrations by Prophet Muhammad saw to illustrate that a healthier Muslim is a better Muslim.

"No one will be allowed to move from his position on the Day of Judgement until he has been asked how he spent his life, how he used his knowledge, how he earnt and spent his money and in what pursuits he used his health" Related in Tirmidhi
The final messenger of God, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) mounted the pulpit, then wept and said, "Ask Allah (swt) for forgiveness and health, for after being granted certainty, one is given nothing better than health." Related in Tirmidhi
Muslim narrated: Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: "The strong believer is better and more loved by Allah than the weak one, but they are both good."

Thus having a mental imagery of “A Healthier Ummah”, it helps us to put in clarity of thought into our actions as well as organizational plans.
